Bartos88May 5, 05:00 AMHi, I am currently deciding which 27" imac to get. With student discount the i5 3.1GHz would be 1.670,76 euro. For 1.846,88 (176 euro more) I could get the i7. I read that only the i7 has hyperthreading. Could someone explain in layman's terms what that means? Would this only give an advantage when using specialized applications that are optimized for quad-core use, or does hyperthreading also increase performance on applications that are not made for multi-core use?

Also, if I choose not to get the i7. Would it make more sense to go with the cheaper 2.7GHz i5 because of the higher turbo-boost which brings the performance closer to the 3.1 i5. I'm probably not gonna play much games, so the 512MB should be enough for me, but maybe for future-proofing/resale-value it would be wiser to get the 1GB?

Any info/advice would be appreciated :)

I'm excited to get my MacBook Pro (probably this week) and start on it...although the F@H website does not have an Intel version yet.

Change the store to the U.S. store. In some cases it's enough to have your language settings on English. (e.g., just setting the store to Japan won't get you Japanese text for app descriptions--if available--you have to set your computer to Japanese as well.)

Either disk radar or DiskTools Pro - those are much better than using voltans garbage program.. for instance.. I got a 2TB drive a few days ago and already smart utility says its failing.. I call BS here and then I ran it under windows and using disktools pro and disk radar - the drive passed all tests and is NOT failing..

Stay away from smart utility - its a POC program (POC=Piece of crap).

:confused: Ok then. Diskradar says my disk is excellent, however it has had bad sectors before resulting in lockups and dataloss. It also doesn't let you run disk tests.

I like the M-Audio Oxygen 25. Looks like a very compact but has a lot of features.

Mine works great. I have a full sized keyboard, but I use the Oxygen 25 for composing. It sits right above my computer keyboard.

That's an interesting thought. It appears to me that the Airport Card is a regular PCMCIA card, but without the head which in third-party cards has the aerial in. Hence the need to plug the aerial in to it when installed IN a Mac.

So couldn't you buy a regualr PCMCIA 'g' card, take the had off it and install it in the Airport slot?

To try and answer my own question - In theory yes, but I'm sure if it was that simple Apple would have done it. On the other hand, it does make it more of a perk to upgrading your Mac, which is ultimately what Apple want.

Lance has said he'll retire or has even retired before I think, but coming out of retirement 'just to p*ss them off' is a bit lame. Imagine if he got beaten? He'd look like a chump. I'm not saying he would get beaten, but coming out of retirement on that agenda is asking for trouble. Sticking two fingers up at them has already been done by whipping everyone for the last 7 years. I think the French are just pissed that the tour became Tour de Lance instead of Tour de France.

Try this link... http://www.saucedesigns.com/sauce.html (warning - the song will immediately play when you load this link... it is designed to be a pop-up that is initiated by the customer... so they don't have to listen if they don't want to!)

You will see how the song plays on Mac's Safari, but not IE/Firefox. It plays just fine on IE/Firefox for PC, so it isn't a browser-specific thing, it has to be a Mac/PC thing. Right?
