For example, I have music or movies stored on a remote server or a NAS, and I want to bring it into the device I'm currently sitting at (a TV, an iPod or iPad, a PS3, another computer).

Whereas AirPlay seems to be the opposite: "My media is here, but I want to play it over there". You use AirPlay to redirect the audio/video output from your iPhone or iPad or computer to a remote A/V device like your stereo receiver or Apple TV.

DLNA can actually work either way, depending on what device classes are supported. From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Living_Network_Alliance#Specification):

Digital Media Server (DMS): These devices store content and make it available to networked digital media players (DMP) and digital media renderers (DMR). Examples include PCs and network attached storage (NAS) devices.

Digital Media Player (DMP): These devices find content on digital media servers (DMS) and provide playback and rendering capabilities. Examples include TVs, stereos and home theaters, wireless monitors and game consoles.

Digital Media Renderer (DMR): These devices play content received from a digital media controller (DMC), which will find content from a digital media server (DMS). Examples include TVs, audio/video receivers, video displays and remote speakers for music.

Digital Media Controller (DMC): These devices find content on digital media servers (DMS) and play it on digital media renderers (DMR). Examples include Internet tablets, Wi-Fi enabled digital cameras and personal digital assistants (PDAs).

So, in Apple terms:

DMS is like a shared iTunes library.

DMP is "pull", analogous to when an Apple TV is accessing your library via iTunes Home Sharing.

DMR is a target for "push", analogous to using an Apple TV as an AirPlay output.

DMC is like the Remote app, or what iTunes/iOS turn into when you switch on AirPlay.


(I have no clue how many TVs out there that act as a DMP can also be set to automatically work as a DMR.)

mrblahAug 14, 08:43 PMThe only people who like these ads are mac users. They make the zealots feel special and supperior which might have been the whole point. As said before, you never get customers by making fun of them. These ads only alienate POTENTIAL customers, thats not a success and its not brilliant. So far apple users are the only ones defending these ads as representing products rather than the people who use the products. If everyone else doesnt see it the same way then the ad is a failure no matter how much people argue, once the target audience misses the point then youve lost. Youll get absolutely nowhere asking "are these ads elistist?" on a mac forum, go ask it on a forum with a high number of PC users and Im sure the responses will be 100% different. Computers arent cheap, if you make fun of someone who spent a lot of money on something, something they probably like a lot, youll just make them defend themselves if you act like they made a stupid decision. I mean jeez, how is that not common sense?

While Im sure they made a few sales with the ads (or pushed a lot of people on the edge of getting a mac back over to the PC side), they could have made MUCH better ones that didnt make fun of potential customers. HP's commercials are good examples of how to sell a computer, they show celebrities and all the things they do on their laptop. Someone new to computers is going to see that ad much more favorably over the apple ad since it actually shows why they should get a computer rather than how stupid everyone else is for not having a mac.

The ads were well executed like usual, but the stupid idea strengthens the stereotype of apple user elitism. I think apple should try to fix that stereotype rather than keep reinforcing it. Instead of saying "hey dumbass, stop playing with calculator and get a mac" in a passive aggressive way, they could have said "pc's are cool but you might find that macs are better at a lot of things, check it out."

I'm not going to be a customer of a company that charges just as much for 1/4 of their competitors product.

Go ahead and flame me...I know that the Mhz of the G4 and P4 don't match up in performance, but there's too big of a speed gap for there to be any doubt in my mind of which is faster.

- Nvidia GeForce GTX 460M

- SD Card Slot

- Thunderbolt Port in ADDITION to 2 USB ports.

- Get rid of the bezel around the screen and either make the screen slightly larger or make it black edge similar to MBP.

I would just settle for the i5 and Nvidia chip. As for the collapsable ethernet port... moving parts? ew.

EraserheadMay 31, 08:08 AMI don't think the number of clicks is the best metric here. If there are hundreds of articles in a category, it takes a long time to skim through the list of them. If you can spend a few extra seconds narrowing down what you're looking for, it can be much faster to find something.

I believe from a usability perspective getting it down to 5 clicks is good enough, and 3 ideal so certainly sub sub categories would work.

A solution is a solution no matter whether it's the Command Line or a GUI, besides that, a lot of apps also have a CLI equivalent, Property List Editor and defaults, Disk Utility and diskutil, Automator and automator, etc. So clearly articles involving Disk Utility would also need to include diskutil, and Automator would need to include it's CLI equivalent...

That can be included as a "see also" link at the bottom of the article.

I would class a CLI app as anything that has to be run in Terminal/X11 and you can't just double click an icon to load the program (as you do with MATLAB)


OK, let's take this one small step at a time and see what we've come up with.

Option 1 looks better, option 2 is trying to use too few categories IMO.

One possibility for a way forward would be to create a new category called BetaMainPage and then create categories called BetaMac Hardware or whatever and see if it works.

EDIT: I don't know if it'd be better to do this publicly or privately...

When you came back later and initated eye contact, it was on your terms, and that changed the whole dynamic, and took the control of the interaction out of her hands and into yours.

Remember, she HAS to be there 'cause it's her job. So, she knows that any number of anonymous guys can show up whenever they like to hit on her (and probably do on a weekly basis) - that can feel threatening. Running into the back would be a clue here.

I don't see a hopeful ending here. Hanging around the Apple store or the mall at shift changing times would be, well, not good unless you want a close up introduction to the big guy from Security. If you hafta go into the Apple store for Apple reasons, seek out the first male employee you see for help and do not make eye contact with Ms. X.

10.4.7 is a total crap.
It caused kernel panic in my computer and made it behave totally erratic. I had to uninstall back to 10.4.6
I hope the new upgrade will solve many issues that were created by 10.4.7:mad:On your Quad G5? It runs like butta on mine. Did you make sure to use the Combo updater and not the Software Update incremental 10.4.7 updater? I always use the Combo.
