thermodynamicApr 23, 06:19 PMI grew up on a pc and now I choose Mac because it's so much better in my opinion. Personally I'm not liberal and I'm not super conservative either. I odiously care about my appearance, and I'm not a vegetarian. I do like the Beatles though wherever that fits in. So I'm not anywhere near this statistic. Windows Is more complicated, but it would be fine if it wasn't slow, get viruses all the time, and when u click an app it doesn't take ten min to pop up (not to mention u get so frustrated u click it several time and then like 7 windows pop up). Personally this never happens to my Mac iknow my way a round both os's but I also own most apple products. I take care of the pc sitting in the basement my dad uses it for email when he is not on the iPad, so it doesn't get that much use but it slows down fast so we clean it out every year ( back what we need up and then wipe the thing). The pc is cheeper that is why most of the world uses them, there is a thiving computer repair business for a reason (not many for Mac). But whatever floats your boat I guess lol

A computer's best feature is its application, but the operating system that runs the applications should not be neglected.

Windows is garbage.

Virtualizing Windows desktops will be like a bad sitcom - everybody is laughing except the ones who work on it.

Personally, I lean left-wing on some issues, right-wing on one or two issues. but prefer not being labeled as anything. For left-wing or right-wing, they're both part of a big turkey. I am an individual. I am a free man. Not a number. :D

My appearance could be better, but I'd rather get to work. Substance over style. Mac has a great look, but the OS is what counts the most.

PCs aren 't much cheaper once you add in support costs, not to mention adware, trialware, and other crapware that get preinstalled. And once info is added into the registry, it can (usually) be removed but the registry cannot be compacted. Bloat creeps in and reinstalling is inevitable, if performance is a concern. Even with Win7, which has bugs that SP1 hasn't fixed either...

OS X has a couple of foibles, but compared to Windows "it just works" is not an inaccurate statement and, quite frankly, is vastly superior to Windows.

Prom1May 9, 05:41 PMI was running through matches this past weekend, and nearly all my settings were medium, and 2d portrait. Using the dedicated graphics card (low end model with 256MB).

It ran fairly well for a beta, I had a few crashes but not graphics related. Upon starting up SC2 the opening menu is choppy, but the game is extremely playable. And even more so if you were to set your settings on low.

Either way it will be exciting come July 27.

(I'm planning on getting the new mac pro, and boosting the graphics, and game it out!):cool:

Great news. BTW, Late "Late '08 Unibody" doesn't have dedicated graphics card ... the graphics cores are apart of the south-bridge & a MOBO integrated piece so to speak. Still that's great news - how is the heat running.

bacaramacNov 6, 05:19 PMThis would be pretty cool idea. When you arrive at the Zoo, Museum, etc you connect to their wi-fi network. Then at each exhibit they have the RFID thing in place and you just put your phone up to the RFID reader and your phone loads a quick video on the Tiger, Lions, etc.

Just a thought.

Edit: I think the RFID devices have to be basically be touching to actually do anything, I don't think walking through turn style would pick it up. I guess this level of sensitivity is adjustable, but my AMEX card has to actually touch and remain on the reader for few seconds to actually read the card.

Most of the cases there are no support files, there would be one small preference file (about 4kb, to store your user settings for that app) in ~/library/preferences. You can delete that or keep it if you think you would download the same app again sometime.
Sometimes, there would be an additional folder with the name of the app containing a small file (4 kb), in your ~/library/application support. So you can check there too.

It talked about windows boxes the windows processors doing just what they are no...getting enough speed to keep going, but will be limited in pushing ghz further than they really are now (ie, they could never get to 8-10 ghz with them)

There's a degree of rivalry between the teams.

The Reds want more people coming to their stadiums. They need increased revenue ticket sales. The only people to attract now are the Blues. The Blues obviously like your sport, otherwise they wouldn't have chosen a team in the first place, but they're not willing to consider, as yet, seeing Red team games. How do you attract Blue supporters?

If you're Apple's ad agency, your ad goes something like:

Blue: "I'm a blue player"
Red: "And I'm a red player"
Blue: "Duh. I can kick this ball, duh, look" (*kicks at ball several times, finally actually hitting it the 7th time*)
Red: *smugly bounces a ball on knee* "Red scored the highest last season, and we're consistantly the best team"
Blue: "Hey! Hey, watch this" *attempts to balance ball on nose, ball consistantly rolling off and away. Blue chases after ball*
Red: *Kicks ball up, bounces on knee, headbutts it, and catches it with one hand behind him* "We have some really skilled players"

(Ad continues ad-nausium. By which I mean it's an ad that makes you nauseous.)

Now, another approach might be to run an ad that consists of a bunch of shots from your stadium. You show some pretty good playing, stuff people will find impressive and will have wished they saw. You show the Reds most often, but, hey, there are two teams in every game. In other words, instead of taking sides based upon the team, you show people that if they come to your stadium, they're going to have a good time. They're going to see some impressive playmanship. Even if it's not their team, there's reason for them to want to go and see the next game.

Which type of ad would sway you? Which type of ad would get you to go to a stadium owned by your team's rival?

The current "I'm a Mac" series doesn't work because it appeals to fanboism, but in doing so, it also ends up being fanboism's victim. It doesn't appeal to PC owners, it just cements existing Mac user's sense of superiority. Except me. I cringe every time I see them.

I disagree totally. People buy superiority. Thats what a good portion of the population wants. Thats why peop;le buy designer clothes. Thats why people buy fancy cars. Thats why people buy expensive jewelery. Thats why people stay at 5 star hotels. People want to feel like they are better than everyone else or they've made better choices.

Not everyone of course. But there are alot.

When people answer this question most of the time they have reasons to back it up like things the candidate has done in the past. I am just trying to learn more about politics is all. And it starts a good thread full of information for me to read.

If you are new to politics and want to honestly learn more about it, you should first figure what you do and don't know.

The first and most basic thing to learn is the fundamentals of government, elections, the law, and all of the history that comes along with it. If you haven't been in school for a while (or taken a government class in a while), a refresher will always help.

After that, I recommend reading Hardball by Chris Matthews. It's a great look into how politicians run, strategize, and win elections. It will also give any voter a lot of insight into how politicians act in the US because of how modern politics works.
